One of the world’s business centers and the most expensive country in Southeast Asia. Expect futuristic architecture and amenities, with western price tags. For this reason, many backpackers or travelers on budget will only stop over for a couple of days, but the airport, itself, is worth the visit.

  • Zion Riverside Food Center

  • Bali Lane - small streets featuring lots of restaurants, bars and live music

    • I recommend Going Om or any of the Mexican restaurants

  • Chinatown (Maxwell Food Center) or Little India

  • Maxwell Road Food Hawker - over 100 stalls of authentic Singaporean cuisine at reasonable prices

  • Recommendations: chili crab, fried sweet potato dumplings, oyster cakes, Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice

  • Gardens by the Bay

  • Botanical gardens - free

  • Visit Chinatown

  • Watch Garden Rhapsody at Gardens by the Bay

  • Visit the Singapore Art Museum - free entry for foreigners every Friday night between 6PM and 9PM

  • Get lost in the Changi Airport (the absolute coolest airport in the world)

  • Bike through Bukit Timah Nature Reserve - free (take the MRT: Newton, then take SMRT Bus 171) 

  • MOCA (museum of contemporary arts)

  • Read a book in any of the city parks
